Are My Stats Actually Good Enough for College Coaches?
Athletes and parents naturally focus on numbers. Depending on the sport, they may track velocity, exit speed, batting average, goals, assists, tackles, sprint times, vertical jump, points per game, or dozens of other measurements.

Eventually, almost every family asks the same question: are these numbers actually good enough to get recruited?
Recruiting Standards Vary
The answer is rarely as simple as yes or no. A statistic needs context. Recruiting standards vary by sport, position, graduation year, level of competition, physical development, academic profile, and the needs of each college program. A sophomore athlete should not automatically compare their current numbers to those of a senior athlete who has already developed physically and committed to a college program.
Development matters. Progress matters. Coaches are not always asking only, “Where is this athlete today?” They may also be asking, “Where could this athlete be after a year or two in our strength program, with our coaching, and in our system?”
Statistics Only Tell Part of The Story
Statistics are important because they provide objective information, but one number rarely tells the entire recruiting story. That is why a recruiting strategy should include more than a list of measurements. Coaches also want to understand the athlete’s video, academics, schedule, position, development, attitude, communication, and overall fit.
Complete Recruiting Presence Gives Coaches More Reasons To Evaluate an Athlete
At Athletes Edge Recruiting, the Athletic Pillar is one of the 5 Pillars of Recruitability™, but it works alongside Academic, Visibility, Coachability, and Faith & Character. A great number may get a coach’s attention. A complete recruiting presence gives that coach more reasons to continue evaluating the athlete.
Instead of obsessing over whether one statistic is good enough, athletes should identify what programs at their desired level typically look for and continue improving. Track progress, update information, continue training, and do not disappear from the recruiting process simply because your current numbers are not perfect.
Take My Recruitable Score™ to evaluate your Athletic Pillar along with the other four areas of recruitability. Then you can stop guessing and start focusing on the areas that need the most attention.
